Grocare Internship Program

About Grocare

Grocare Management is a certified minority-owned cleaning and facility services company serving schools and office campuses across Greater Boston since 2012. Driven by a mission to raise the standard of care, we believe that care is more than a word. We deliver custom, health-focused cleaning services with attention to detail, strong client partnerships, and continuous improvement.

Overview

Purpose: As a growing small business, we are excited to launch our Summer Internship Program to give a motivated college student insight to how a modern service company operates, combining strategy, finance, operations, and on-the-ground service delivery. The intern will help Grocare problem-solve, conduct valuable research, and develop new efficiencies and client value.

Format: Hybrid (primarily work from home, where you’ll focus on project research and analysis, with periodic client site visits in the Greater Boston area and office check-ins).

Flexible Schedule: 20–40 hours per week during the summer months. Schedule to be set in collaboration with the prospective intern.

Compensation: $18.00 per hour.

Example Projects & Tasks

You’ll work closely with Grocare’s owners, receiving mentorship while contributing to meaningful projects aligned with current strategic goals. Depending on your interests and skills, you may focus on one larger project or several smaller ones over the summer.

Business Strategy

  • Assist in building an acquisition screening dashboard to evaluate small-business growth opportunities (horizontal and vertical), including preliminary valuation.
  • Revise pricing strategies, exploring upselling, vendor-partnership incentives, and price elasticity (e.g., floor care projects, carpet cleaning).
  • Explore the balance between profits, organic vs. inorganic growth, employee/client satisfaction, and business ethics.

Operations & Analytics

  • Optimize service routes and labor allocation by mapping routes, comparing estimated vs. actual hours, and recommending shift adjustments.
  • Redesign service-scheduling systems using JavaScript, Airtable, ClickUp, and/or low-code API tools (e.g., Make).
  • Evaluate the bid-proposal process for public and private contracts, including how AI can price using production rates.
  • Conduct risk analysis of new service offerings (e.g., high-window cleaning).
  • Develop a client health scorecard combining inspection scores, complaints, and contract data.

Research & Marketing

  • Explore industry trends in labor economics, technology, and sustainability and present findings at a company-wide meeting.
  • Research areas may include:
    • Needs of vulnerable and sensitive populations (e.g., air-quality monitoring).
    • ROI of green equipment or products (price vs. cost savings through client or employee impact).
    • Incentive structures for service teams (behavioral-economics principles).
  • Support branding and content tied to Grocare’s value proposition and market presence.
  • Optimize ad spend across LinkedIn, Google, and offline channels, refining school and office messaging.

Field Experience

  • Shadow supervisors at client sites to see how strategy translates into operations.
  • On-site reviews may include:
    • How Grocare’s managerial philosophy balances Strategy, Coaching, and Execution for every employee.
    • Quality inspections and training programs for efficiency and client satisfaction (UV-light audits, supervisor logs, client surveys).

What You'll Gain

  • Exposure to all sides of a business: finance, operations, strategy, marketing, and frontline service.
  • Experience applying data, economics, and problem-solving to real business challenges.
  • Project Management Skills
  • Opportunities to input your own ideas on how Grocare can improve.
  • Mentorship from leadership, including daily check-ins and guidance.
  • Create deliverables and impact analyses (e.g., cost or time savings) that you can showcase, such as dashboards, research reports, or presentations, depending on your project focus.

  • Eager to learn, adaptable, and open to exploring multiple areas of a business.
