Grocare's Environmental Policy

We acknowledge the significant impact of our janitorial services on the environment and are fully committed to conducting business in an eco-friendly manner. This policy outlines our dedication to environmental ethics, pollution prevention, continual improvement, and meeting the environmental goals of our clients.

Commitment to Environmental Ethics

We are committed to providing cleaning services that have the least possible impact on the natural environment. Our company pledges to act responsibly and sustainably in all our operations, including general housekeeping, carpet extraction, stripping & waxing, and pressure washing, while aligning with the environmental goals and expectations of our clients.

Environmental Impact and Scope

Our services, including vacuuming, disinfection, carpet extraction, stripping & waxing, and pressure washing, directly affect the environment. We are committed to minimizing this impact by implementing the following methods:

  • Water Conservation:
    • Awareness: We encourage staff to be mindful of water use and to report any leaks or issues that could lead to unnecessary water consumption.
    • Leak Prevention: Regularly inspect and maintain equipment, such as carpet extraction wands and pressure washing hoses, to prevent leaks that can lead to water wastage.
    • Utilize microfiber mops and cloths that require less water for effective cleaning. Microfiber materials are highly absorbent, reducing the need for frequent rinsing and minimizing water use.
  • Waste Reduction:
    • Dilution Control Systems: Use automated dilution control systems to ensure that cleaning chemicals are mixed with water at the correct ratio, preventing overuse of water and chemicals.
    • We implement a waste management strategy focused on reducing, reusing, and recycling materials wherever possible. This includes minimizing the use of single-use items and ensuring proper segregation of recyclable and non-recyclable waste. One example of our waste reduction is through the cleaning and reuse of microfiber cloths, mop heads, and squeegee heads.
    • Our disinfection procedures will be designed to minimize chemical use while ensuring safety and effectiveness, reducing the volume of chemical waste produced. Our Electrostatic Disinfection service therefore uses concentrate chemical that is then diluted.
  • Energy-Efficient Equipment:
    • We will employ energy-efficient vacuum cleaners that meet the Carpet and Rug Institute’s (CRI) Seal of Approval and operate at sound levels of 70dBA or less. This helps reduce energy consumption and noise pollution. Vacuum units that do not currently meet these criteria will be gradually replaced as they reach the end of their service life.
  • Client-Specific Environmental Goals:
    • We recognize that each client may have specific environmental goals, such as reducing their carbon footprint, improving indoor air quality, or achieving sustainability certifications (e.g., LEED). We are committed to tailoring our services to help clients meet these environmental and safety requirements, ensuring that our operations align with their expectations. Our plan is to:
      1. Product Evaluation: All products and equipment will be evaluated against recognized standards, such as the EPA Safer Choice list, to ensure their effectiveness and environmental compliance.
      2. Access to Green Products: We have access to a wide range of green products and equipment catalogs from our primary suppliers. This allows us to offer eco-friendly alternatives that meet customer preferences and environmental goals.
      3. Adjustments & Feedback: Based on customer specifications and product evaluation, we will adjust our purchasing and SOP strategies to align with their needs. Client satisfaction will be measured through survey results to ensure ongoing alignment with their environmental expectations.

Commitment to Pollution Prevention

Our organization is committed to preventing pollution and reducing waste generation. We will:
  • Minimize Chemical Use: Focus on reducing the volume and toxicity of cleaning chemicals used in our operations.
  • Proper Waste Disposal: This includes proper storage, handling, and disposal of chemicals according to environmental regulations.
  • Spill Prevention: We will take all necessary steps to prevent spills and accidental releases of cleaning chemicals. This includes training employees on spill response procedures.

Commitment to Continual Improvement

We are dedicated to continually improving our environmental performance. This includes:
  • Adopting New Technologies: We will regularly evaluate and adopt new cleaning technologies and methods that offer superior environmental benefits.
  • Ongoing Training: We will provide continuous education and training to our employees on the latest environmental practices and innovations.
  • Semi-Annual Review: We will set environmental objectives and goals, review them at least every 24 months, and adjust our strategies based on the latest advancements in environmental protection.
  • Green Product Transitions: We will prioritize the use of cleaning products that are certified by reputable environmental standards (e.g., Green Seal, UL ECOLOGO, EPA Safer Choice). These products are formulated to reduce toxicity, improve biodegradability, and minimize harm to aquatic and terrestrial ecosystems.
  • By June 2025, we plan to:
    • Remove RTU Lysol as a disinfectant and use a concentrated product that uses a controlled dilution method.
    • Phase out our current glass cleaner to Diversey Glance NA (a Green Seal product).
